Work in Canada

Canada’s leading industries are looking for skilled immigrants to urgently fill labor shortages. Finding work in Canada can be an excellent way to begin your life in the country. There are many worker programs designed to bring foreign nationals who can establish themselves economically in Canada.

The process for obtaining a Canadian work permit varies greatly depending on which type of work permit a person is applying for. There are many options for obtaining a Canadian work permit. Some work permits require a job offer or contract from a Canadian employer (LMIA-Exempt), some require that the employer provide a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), while others (Open Work Permits) require that a person has some sort of connection to Canada (previous education, spousal sponsorship, etc.).

The International Mobility Program (IMP) enables Canadian employers to hire temporary foreign workers without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). A significant number of LMIA-exemptions are available through international agreements between Canada and other countries. Certain types of employees can transfer to Canada from other countries, and vice versa, if they are able to demonstrate this will have a positive impact. Canada has negotiated the following Free Trade Agreements, each encompassing a range of LMIA-exemptions:

● North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)

● Canada-Chile FTA / Canada-Peru FTA / Canada-Colombia FTA / Canada-Korea FTA

● Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)

● General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS)
